The clear highlight of the final day of this year’s Wimbledon was the men’s singles final between Alcaraz and Djokovic. After Markéta Vondroušová’s triumph on Saturday, the Czech tennis representatives also had a chance to win valuable titles on Sunday.
The clear highlight of the final day of this year’s Wimbledon was the men’s singles final between Alcaraz and Djokovic. After Markéta Vondroušová’s triumph on Saturday, the Czech tennis representatives also had a chance to win valuable titles on Sunday.
Alena Kovackova and Laura Samsonova faced the home duo of Hannah Klugmanová, Isabelle Lacyová in the final. The tennis players spent more than an hour and a half on the grass court at the All England Club this afternoon.
The first set was decided in the ninth game when the Czechs managed to take a one break lead. They did not let it go and took the set to a victorious end 6:4.
They entered the second act much better than their opponents and built up a 5:1 lead. However, the Brits managed to make the match more dramatic as they tied the match at 5:5. Kovachkova and Samsonova, however, kept the ending and won 7:5.
This is the first junior doubles title for the Czech Republic at the London Grand Slam since 2013. Back then, future stars Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková triumphed there.
Jakub Filip also succeeded in the final alongside Italian Gabriele Vulpitta. In the one-hour match they competed against the Serbian-French duo Branko Djurić, Arthur Gea.
Both sets had a similar course and ultimately the same result. Filip and Vulpitta could start celebrating after converting the second match point and winning twice 6:3. The last time the Czech tennis team won this category at Wimbledon was four years ago, when Jonáš Forejtek and Jiří Lehečka won.
Nikola Bartůňková did not win the Wimbledon girls’ singles title. The 348th player in the WTA ranking, who is 17 years old, was not able to beat Clervie Ngounoue, who is ranked almost 200 places lower among women.
The young tennis player from the USA used a total of seven break points in 85 minutes and won both sets 6: 2. Unlike Bartůňková, Olga Mišková, Andrea Holíková, Andrea Strnadová twice and Kristýna Plíšková in 2010 have been the reigning champions of this tournament in the past.
Among the juniors, Henry Searle conquered Wimbledon 2023. The player from Great Britain defeated Russian Jaroslav Demin twice 6:4 in the final duel.
