Čvančara is on the decline after a great start in Germany, he has been silent since September and is a substitute. What’s going on and when will he get his chance?
After his engagement in Sparta Prague he went out into the world for experience. In the summer, for more than 10 million euros, Tomáš Čvančara headed to Germany, specifically to Borussia Mönchengladbach. He had a great start to the season, but now he is suffering. What’s going on?
After his engagement in Sparta Prague he went out into the world for experience. In the summer, for more than 10 million euros, Tomáš Čvančara headed to Germany, specifically to Borussia Mönchengladbach. He had a great start to the season, but now he is suffering. What’s going on?
He was supposed to be the new attacking star of one of Germany’s most traditional clubs. Given the relatively little competition, it was expected that Tomas Cvančara could also be an offensive leader at Borussia Mönchengladbach. This is not happening.
The Czech striker had a great start to his engagement. He did well in the preparation, scoring four goals in the first two competitive matches, to which he added one assist. Everything looked great. But then things started to get a little rough.
There were several reasons. The fact is that Borussia themselves are not experiencing a successful start to the season. But that was more or less to be expected. Mönchengladbach do not currently have the squad to challenge for cups. Mid-table is the maximum that can be expected from a traditional team.
At the moment we would find Die Borussien in the second half of the Bundesliga table. In 10 games they have collected 10 points, the last Cologne have 5 points.
Cvančara has more or less become a mere joker from the man who could have pulled Borussia’s offensive line. It didn’t do him much good that the club brought in Jordan Siebatcheu, who arrived from Union Berlin after two rounds of play, on loan in his place.
Why isn’t Cvančara playing so much?
Tomas Cvančara has played 11 competitive matches for the German club this season, scoring 5 goals and adding 2 assists. But the last time he entered the statistics was in mid-September. He has been silent since then.
He’s not collecting minutes as he would like. As mentioned, he’s become a joker. He’s started five times, never played a full game. When he doesn’t have the numbers, he’s not that much of an asset to the team.
That’s not the case with Jordan. He doesn’t have great numbers, but he makes up for his not so great productivity with his tremendous work ethic and success in personal battles. And a record of 2 goals and 2 assists in 8 games combined with the aforementioned skills? Decent.
“Jordan is more experienced and already knows the Bundesliga. Tomas Cvančara is a young player, still new to the Bundesliga. He needs time to acclimatise, we have to be patient with him,” expressed coach Gerardo Seoane before Borussia’s last game.
“Tomas also lacks training rhythm due to various injuries in recent weeks. Jordan got his chance, he took it. But Tomas is not far behind. We firmly believe in him,” the Swiss strategist added.
Moreover, Jordan was injured in the last game, which means that Cvančara should get a chance in the starting line-up in the next game. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s a new opportunity for the still only 23-year-old forward to make a name for himself.
