Incredible wilderness. This is what a battle of the top teams in the table should look like. Sevilla came at the table leader with extreme pace and surprised them with two goals. But Real Madrid’s second-half flurry provided the perfect turnaround.

Real Madrid have led La Liga for almost the entire season, while Sevilla have been in second place for the vast majority of the time and the only pursuer of Los Blancos. This match was supposed to be a straightforward title fight. However, due to Sevilla’s results crisis, Barcelona replaced them in second place by a score.

However, this did not detract from the attractiveness of the match. You don’t go to Ramón Sanchez Pizjuán to win. Several opponents have been fried in the Andalusian inferno, and Sevilla have not lost at home in La Liga yet this season. When you consider the incredible home fans and the atmosphere they create from the first minute, it’s no wonder.

And there was indeed a raucous atmosphere on the ground of the third team in the table, which drove the Sevilla players to perform at the edge of dedication. In the 21st minute, Modric fouled on the edge of the penalty area and his compatriot, Ivan Rakitic, stepped up to take a direct kick.

The Real Madrid wall incomprehensibly parted and the Croatian’s attempt ended up in the net. The first goal kicked Sevilla’s momentum even further and, in turn, put Real down. 4 minutes later, after a quick action on the left side, Jesús Corona broke into the box, pushed the ball beside him in a fall and Erik Lamela delivered it into the empty net.

Real Madrid sounded the alarm. Before the game, it had a 12-point lead, but if it lost in Sevilla and Barcelona made it through its two playoff games, it would be down to six points and more high drama.

So there must have been a huge blowout in the visitors’ cabin at half-time, similar to the one Sir Alex Ferguson used to give out in his day. For a completely different team ran out for the second half. A slow, plodding and defensively sluggish Real Madrid remained in the booth. Dynamic, energetic and hungry warriors ran onto the pitch, looking to turn the game around at any cost.

Most importantly, Rodrygo came on as well, which was key. In the 50th minute, the Brazilian youngster took advantage of a pass from Carvajal to reduce the score to 1: 2. The whole second half proved that this substitution was very good. Acuña was angry on the right wing and was substituted in the 62nd minute, but Augustinsson couldn’t cope with him either.

Real Madrid pushed and pushed, the goal could be smelled in the air. In the 76th minute it did come, only the referee disallowed it to Vinícius because of an alleged handball. But that gave the visitors a healthy boost and they added to their momentum. Carlo Ancelotti again showed a good hand in making substitutions, sending on Nacho in the 81st minute and he rewarded him with a goal a minute later to make it 2-2.

While Sevilla were the better team in the first half, Real Madrid absolutely dominated the second half. And after the equaliser, they felt they could still win. So in the 92nd minute, he went on the attack again, Vinícius played with Sevilla players on the whitewash and with his heel he brought Rodryg out, who pulled the ball to the front of the net, returned it to Benzema in the small area and he hit the bar to complete Csaplar’s trap.

Real Madrid thus managed an incredibly difficult match and moved closer to the championship title. In their last six matches they will face Osasuna, Espanyol, Atlético, Cadiz, Levante and Betis, and they need to win four of those matches to be sure. And that’s assuming, of course, that Barcelona wins all its matches.
