Crystal Palace fans are kicking the coach out. Who is among their suggestions?
Two FA Cup games without scoring a goal, the end of the competition and confirmation of very poor winter form. Crystal Palace are struggling and a few days after joining the London team with Jindřich Trpišovský, the future of coach Roy Hodgson is once again being addressed.
Two FA Cup games without scoring a goal, the end of the competition and confirmation of very poor winter form. Crystal Palace are struggling and the future of coach Roy Hodgson is once again being addressed.
At 76, Roy Hodgson is clearly the oldest coach in the Premier League. He is considered a club legend at Crystal Palace because under his leadership the club has never played outright for relegation. It was to keep the Eagles among the elite that he returned last season when the management sacked Patrick Vieira.
And although the results came quickly and the Eagles comfortably saved themselves, the fans stood up for Vieira. His combination football was scrubby at times, and in any case, the call-up of Hodgson marked a sure return to appealing for results and, more importantly, honest defensive work.
Harsh criticism of a coach legend at Crystal Palace
In the FA Cup third round double-header with Everton, Crystal Palace didn’t score a goal. It confirmed an appalling record of just six wins through all competitions since the start of the season. The club is not only in the relegation zone thanks to the troubled Championship newcomers.
“I’m not even angry anymore, I just feel empty. After 35 years of rooting for this team I’m absolutely lost with the current setup. Fire Roy now and start preparing for next season.
We’re not proactive and react when circumstances force us to,” wrote CPFC_TalesFromThe90s fan in a liked comment under a Crystal Palace instagram post
Since winning at Old Trafford in October, the Eagles have only won two of their 15 games. “Any other team would have sacked Roy. It’s becoming a joke,” supporter Liam Watkins insinuated that Hodgson is mainly held back by past results on the Eagles bench.
Mourinho as a replacement?
While The Athletic has speculated about a possible deal for Trpišovský from Slavia Prague, Crystal Palace fans are more likely to talk about managers with some Premier League experience. Jesse Marsch, for example, is one option.
Joe Zetta, a fan, relaxed a bit: “I suggest Jose Mourinho as a substitute. What do you think?” reacts to the sacking of the legendary Portuguese from AS Roma. That, however, is a rather distant dream for Crystal Palace supporters.
