Crosby continues to rise in NHL scoring history!
Sidney Crosby contributed three points to the 3:4 shootout win in Montreal. He leapfrogged legendary offensive defenseman Paul Coffey in historical scoring and tied Mark Recchi. Vaněček and Jiříček also did well.
Sidney Crosby contributed three points to the 3:4 shootout win in Montreal. He leapfrogged legendary offensive defenseman Paul Coffey in the historical scoring and tied Mark Recchi.
The game Montreal Canadiens vs Pittsburgh Penguins (3:4sn) ended after an endless 12 series of shootouts, where the Czech forward Radim Zohorna could have made the difference. But it wasn’t until the 12th series that Jansen Harkins was able to decide.
Crosby contributed to all of Pittsburgh’s goals, scoring two goals and adding an assist. That brought him to 1,533 points in the regular season on 567 goals and 966 assists.
He leapfrogged legendary defenseman Paul Coffey, the 14th man in the historical stats, by two points. In addition, he tied Mark Recchi for 13th place.
Another five points ahead of Crosby in 12th position is another Canadian player Joe Thornton, who retired before the current season. It is therefore realistic that the Penguins star will peek into the top ten during the next season.
The Canadian player also scored his 172nd career three-point game. With this feat, he tied another Hall of Fame member, Steve Yzerman, for seventh place. The absolute record holder in this statistic is none other than “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky, who did it in 459 games!
Vítek Vaněček denied Pastrňák
In the New Jersey Devils vs. Boston Bruins game (2:1p), Czech goalie Vitek Vaněček shone, stopping 23 shots, including seven attempts by David Pastrňák. He was named the second star of the game for his performance.
It was Vaněček’s 12th game won this season. That puts him among the top seven goaltenders in the entire league in that statistic. However, with a save percentage below 89 percent and an average of 3.31 goals per game, he is definitely not among the best. Anyway, in today’s game he gave a great performance.
Columbus almost lost a clear victory
Columbus Blue Jackets’ win 6-5 over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Blue Jackets led 5:0 after two periods and still managed to almost lose the game, which was clearly won at first sight. During the third period they managed to lose their carefully built lead. However, they finally managed to get the extra point in extra time.
“We played a solid two periods,” said Blue Jackets coach Pascal Vincent. What’s positive is that we also managed to win the overtime. It’s a good encouragement for the next games. But… tomorrow we will definitely evaluate the third period and learn from it,” Vincent added.
