Wednesday’s Nations League schedule will feature, among other things, a battle for top spot in Group 1 of League A. The second-placed Croatians must score against the Danes at home, because if they lose, Denmark will secure first place. What to bet on?
The Croatians are coming through the group with flying colours. They have recovered from their opening loss to Austria and have gained seven points in their next three games. They are second in the table, two points short of qualification.
And the Danes are in first place, but they are also assured of finishing third worst. They have only lost at home to Croatia and won their other three matches, including the one in France. They are on track to qualify for the play-offs.
The home fans are looking forward to seeing the in-form Mislav Orsic, who boasts an 11+6 record for Dynamo Zagreb.
At 37 years old, Luka Modric is still playing first fiddle for Real Madrid and has scored only twice and assisted once.
In Manchester, the fans have quickly taken a liking to Christian Eriksen, with the Danish midfielder recording two goals so far. Bruges’ talented striker Andreas Skov Olsen has opened the net six times and added four assists.
The Croatians may have seven points, but their attack is not working at all. They have scored just three goals in four rounds, which could be a problem against the productive Danes.
The northerners have been firing sharp since the successful Euro 2021, scoring two or more goals in eight of their last eleven games. Yet they don’t have offensive stalwarts in Europe’s top clubs.
Given the offensive strength of the Danes and the return of Christian Eriksen, I think the visitors will not lose.
