If anyone would like to find Manchester United’s weak spot off the football pitch, it is definitely the summer transfer window. The Old Trafford club have only signed one player so far during the summer break. That is twenty-two year old defender Tyrell Malacia, who arrived in the Isles from Feyenoord. The club’s biggest star Cristiano Ronaldo has also expressed his dissatisfaction with the Red Devils’ transfer policy.
According to respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who focuses on transfers, Ronaldo is very unhappy with the situation at the club. The Portuguese striker would like his team to be more active in the transfer market than it has been so far. United should already be in agreement with Christian Eriksen, who will join the club as a free agent.
United’s management is also in talks with Barcelona over the transfer of midfielder Frenkie de Jong. However, this transfer is tied up due to the financial difficulties of the Catalan club. Barcelona owes de Jong a salary of around €20 million. However, the Dutch midfielder is a priority for United’s new coach Erik Ten Hag, who would like to renew with him from Ajax.
It is with Ajax that the Manchester club is in talks over the transfer of stopper Lisandro Martínez. Arsenal were also interested in him, but the player himself chose Manchester United. However, Ajax management is not satisfied with United’s offer of 50 million euros and is asking for more. Martínez is trying to pressure the Ajax management to allow his transfer to the Premier League.
However, these new player acquisitions are not enough for Ronaldo. He thinks that United, even with any new signings, will not be able to compete with the current hegemons of English football, Liverpool and Manchester City. Ronaldo did not travel with the team on the pre-season tour to Thailand and missed several training sessions. The Portuguese striker apologised due to family reasons.
United’s latest transfer target is Argentine striker Paulo Dybala, who is available as a free agent. According to journalist Rob Dawson, Dybala should have already received a concrete offer from Manchester United.
However, the departure of Ronaldo himself is also mentioned in connection with the Red Devils’ transfer policy. The latter, due to his age, would like to play regularly in the Champions League, which United did not qualify for this season. Bayern Munich and Chelsea are interested in the services of the 37-year-old Ronaldo, while the Portuguese’s agent has also met with representatives of Barcelona, according to media reports.
