Six referees from the first top competition played in Bolivia have been suspended after playing 42 minutes of extra time in the second half.
It was a match between Atletico Palmaflor and Blooming. The entire match was played on a playing surface that was in terrible condition due to rain and the entire pitch was partially flooded.
Ten minutes before the end of the game, the home team managed to score a goal to make it 2: 0 and there did not seem to be any controversy.
Palmaflor seemed to be cruising to victory. The visiting team, however, managed to reduce the game. But the goal at 2:1 required a video review that lasted an incredible seventeen minutes.
The review, which finally accepted the goal, was complicated by the weather and the generally terrible condition of the field of play.
It was to be expected that the fourth referee would set at least another twenty minutes of play. To everyone’s surprise, he eventually signalled the addition of the full thirty minutes.
During the set time, there were other incidents and moments that resulted in no play. The visiting team, despite receiving a red card, managed to equalise in the 114th minute of play.
It was approaching the 40th minute of the set time when the home side took the lead back. The crazy marathon full of incidents and emotions finally ended after an incredible 132 minutes.
All six referees involved have been suspended for the time being and the entire match will be investigated.
