CR7 is clear and wants to leave United, but there are no takers for his services yet
The legendary CR7 has made it clear that he wishes to leave Old Trafford this summer and score goals in different colours this coming season. Unfortunately for him, however, there is not as much of a queue for his services as he might have expected and the Red Devils are thus in danger of experiencing a similar ‘Ronaldo effect’ to that experienced by Juventus last season.
The fact that the Madeira native wants to leave Manchester United is clear, for example, from his non-participation in the beginning of Erik ten Hag’s team’s preparation, thus the Portuguese star is trying to force a transfer at any cost in a similar way that we unfortunately see more and more often from players nowadays.
Like his departure from Juventus Turin last year, his wish for a change of jersey is, let’s say, an open secret, although the Dutch United manager assures that he is not aware of any transfer request from the representatives of the Portuguese national team captain.
Thus, the Red Devils are facing a similar situation to the one that occurred in Turin last year, when the transfer of the Champions League record holder took place only four days before the end of the transfer window, which, according to Giorgio Chiellini, Ronaldo was to some extent responsible for the loss of many points and the general malaise of Le Zebre in the beginning of last season.
The threat to Ten Hag is also growing because there is not as much of a scramble for the Portuguese sharpshooter’s services as one might expect and although there have been vehement reports of interest from Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich, none of the aforementioned clubs have made concrete moves to sign him, according to recent reports.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is doing his best to get his best client stuck in a leading European club, popularly speaking, and he is trying so hard that he has recently opened negotiations with representatives of Atlético Madrid, the city rival of Real Madrid, where Cristiano wrote the club’s history in bold letters.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner still has a valid contract at Old Trafford and although he doesn’t consider United’s current squad to be Premier League title aspirants and, more importantly, would have to accept the fact that Ten Hag’s charges will only be kicking around the Europa League in the new season, unless a suitor interesting enough for Ronaldo emerges out of the blue, he will be humming the European Cup jingle grimly on Thursday nights in September.
