Courtois, Alaba and others or Who all will miss Euro 2024 in Germany due to injury?
Euro 2024 in Germany will start in less than 3 months and some players already know that they won’t have time to recover before the nominations close. Some have even suffered such serious injuries that they have been ruled out for the entire season and participation in the European Championships is out of the question.
Euro 2024 in Germany will start in less than 3 months and some players already know they won’t have time to recover before the nominations close. Some have even suffered such serious injuries that they have been ruled out for the entire season and participation in the European Championships is out of the question.
Thibault Courtois
The Belgian goalkeeper has been out since Real Madrid‘s pre-season tour. A cruciate ligament tear has prevented Courtois from taking part in even a single championship game. The lanky goalkeeper was expected to return to action in early April, but that was not to be due to a meniscus tear in the same knee and he had to undergo a second operation in one season.
David Alaba
Again, we are talking about a Real Madrid player. Unlike his teammates Courtois and Milito, Alaba tore his ACL in December and there was no question of him being able to recover before the start of the championship. This season, the experienced all-rounder has started 17 games and notched 2 assists. This is a very noticeable loss for Austria.
Gavi
The Barcelona offspring suffered a cruciate ligament injury in a qualifying match against Georgia last November. This angered the Catalan club’s management, who subsequently suggested that the Spanish federation had erred as doctors allowed Gavi, who was on the ground after one procedure, to continue despite the pain. The next time he was interrupted, the talented midfielder could go no further and a longer break awaited him. However, he should be able to make the start of the new season.
Ivan Perisic
The Croatian veteran, like those mentioned above, suffered a cruciate ligament tear last September. Unfortunately for Perisic, the injury most likely means missing the last possible major tournament of his career. He will be 37 years old at the next World Championships and is not expected to make the nomination. Currently playing for Hajduk Split, he will probably end his rich career where it started.
Domenico Berardi
It has been a very unlucky season for the Italian winger. During January, Berardi injured his meniscus and was out of action until February 28. In addition, he tore his Achilles tendon in his first game after the injury and will most likely not return to the pitch until next year. Moreover, this is a very noticeable loss for Sassuolo, as the Italian has scored 9 goals and 3 assists in 18 games.
Paul Pogba and Sandro Tonali
Although these 2 players are not from the same nationality and neither have been ruled out by the same injury, they have more than enough in common. Pogba was charged with using banned substances a few days ago and was given a 4 year ban. Since he is already 35 years old, he is not expected to return to the national team.
Tonali was the one who transferred from AC Milan to Newcastle in the summer for 64 million euros. In his new engagement, the Italian scored 9 starts, but the accusation of a betting scandal and the subsequent punishment handed down to the Italian midfielder took him out of the game for 10 months. He has not ruled out a return to the national team, but it depends on his fight against gambling.
