Monster Energy is coming out with a three-part series, All On The Line, featuring interesting stories of famous MMA fighters. One of them is Daniel Cormier, former two-time Olympian and UFC heavyweight champion. What did he experience during his last two defeats to rival Stipe Miocic?

Forty-three-year-old Daniel Cormier is a living combat sports legend. He was the first to become a two-time welterweight and heavyweight champion.

As part of Monster Energy’s three-part All On The Line series, he shared his feelings not only about his first major win over Stipe Miocic, but also about his subsequent defeats.

“The first time against Stipe, that was the last time I felt physically perfect. I felt like I was much faster. I knew I was going to get up early, fight and then score a takedown, but that didn’t happen. I hit something, he dropped his hands and went down. It was perfect,” Cormier said.

It happened in July 2018 at the end of the first round. He subsequently defeated Derrick Lewis and then it was time for a rematch with Miocic, which took place in August 2019.

The fight went all the way to the fourth round, in which Cormier eventually fell. “I pounded him for fifteen minutes, but Stipe is a tough guy and a champion. During the fight he adjusted his fighting style and started kicking me.

I was hurt and very tired. I don’t know what I would have done if I had survived that round. I really wasn’t at my best,” he added. A year later, they fought again and Cormier again walked away defeated. This time it was the last fight of his career.

“The night before the last fight, I noticed that everything was coming to an end at the worst possible time. Even though the people I loved were there, my children and family were not.

There were a lot of changes, and I didn’t like that. The Apex was empty, but I felt ready, and much better than the second fight,” theformer championfinished.

He ended his rich career with a 22:3 series. Outside of Miocic, only Jon Jones, another American MMA legend, was able to beat him.
