The Champions League play-offs kick off on Tuesday, with Copenhagen taking on Trabzonspor in the Champions League qualifying round. What to expect from the Danish and Turkish champions and what to bet on?
Copenhagen have started the league season in a terrible way. As last year’s winner of the entire competition, they are now only in a shameful eighth place, holding a record of two wins and three losses. The play-offs are not in an ideal frame of mind.
On the other hand, Trabzonspor, as the true champions, did not lose in the opening two rounds, picked up full points and earlier gave Sivasspor a four in the Turkish Super Cup. Compared to Copenhagen, they are clearly in better shape.
The home side rely on goals from Pep Bielsa, the Spanish midfielder scored eighteen times and assisted three times last season. This year Biela has scored four goals, with Swedish international Viktor Claesson adding three more and one assist.
Danish forward Andreas Cornelius has been the best performer from the beginning of the season, the Danish international has scored three goals. Greek national midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas opened the net once and also assisted once.
Copenhagen is not doing well defensively at all, waiting for a clean sheet in seven games, during which it has conceded an average of 1.86 goals.
Trabzonspor, on the other hand, relies on a solid defence, conceding a single goal in their last four games, and last year they had the best defensive record in the league.
Considering the form of Trabzonspor’s defence and the massive strengthening of its squad, I think the visitors will not lose.
