Conte has spoken out about a potential sacking! It’s possible they’ll want to get rid of me, he says. How did he comment on the AC game?
Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League rematch against AC Milan on Wednesday is over after the home side failed to score in that game as well. The match ended in a goalless draw, but the Rossoneri could have struck several times to decide the outcome. Nevertheless, they still advanced to the quarter-finals, while Antonio Conte and his team finished already in the eighth round.

Wednesday’s Champions League rematch between Tottenham and AC Milan produced no goals, which was enough for the visiting side to advance to the top eight.
It should be noted, Spurs created a minimum of chances in the match, taking the Rossoneri could have decided the match several times.
The decisive moment of the whole match was probably the situation from the 77th minute, when Cristian Romero received a second yellow card for a really harsh foul on Theo Hernández and had to take an early shower.
Paradoxically, it was only with ten men that the home side created their biggest opportunity. Harry Kane’s header didn’t end up in the net. AC goalkeeper Mike Maignan made a brilliant save to finally decide the Milanese progress.
Logically, coach Conte was not happy with the match. In the interview afterwards he spoke about the fact that his charges were not very active and practically not dangerous. Compared to last year, however, he describes it as a step forward, although it was not enough to qualify.
The reigning Serie A champions showed great tactical preparedness in this rematch, as well as an excellent defensive performance.
Conte
“We have a team that still has a lot of work to do to be competitive at a high level. In my opinion, it still has a long way to go. I’ve been here 14 months and let’s not forget that last season we were relegated in the group stage of the Conference League,” Conte said after the game.
“So it’s definitely a step forward. In terms of history, these two clubs are on a completely different level. Milan won the Serie A title last season, while we miraculously climbed from ninth to fourth place,” the Spurs coach commented on the balance of power between the two teams.
Conte is also clearly aware of the current situation at Tottenham and the speculation that the deck has been rocked under him.
“If people think that 13-14 months is enough for us to become competitive, they are completely wrong. The players worked hard today but needed to be more decisive in attack,” the home coach sees it clearly.
“I have a contract that ends and we will see how the season goes. You never know if the club won’t want to get rid of me sooner. Maybe they had higher expectations and may be disappointed,” he added.
Finally, Conte also noted that looking at the statistics, it was a balanced match, but AC showed a more disciplined and constant performance in the double header.
