Conor McGregor is still coming back to form after a leg injury and may even have his next opponent already. After the recent UFC 268 tournament, he was challenged by the last challenger of champion Charles Oliveira. How did the Irishman respond?

Conor McGregor badly broke his leg in his July match with Dustin Poirier. It is from that injury that he is still recovering. For now, he’s mainly training boxing, but it’s only a matter of time before he can kick and train grappling.

It is then certain that he will not see his next fight until 2022 at the earliest. It was widely expected that he would want another fight, his fourth with Poirier, but quite possibly this will not be the case.

In fact, he was challenged in recent days by Michael Chandler, who lost on points to Justin Gaethje at the recent UFC 268 event. It should be mentioned that it was a fantastic fight, with many wondering if the fight didn’t end in a knockout for one side or the other.

Either way, Chandler proved that he is one of the top lightweights in the UFC. That’s also why McGregor responded to his challenge the way he did.

“At some point in my career, I’ll be open to it. By the way, you put on a fantastic fight,” McGregor responded to the American fighter’s challenge.

It’s easy to read from the statement that McGregor would love to fight Poirier again immediately upon his return. However, the latter is facing a title fight and it wouldn’t make sense from any point of view for the Irishman to fight Poirier if he holds the belt.

So Chandler in particular could be a great test for the returning star.
