Connor Bedard has been voted NHL Rookie of the Month again

Still only 18 years old, rising NHL star Connor Bedard, playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, was named Rookie of the Month for the second month in a row. He continues to show that the predictions about generational talent are completely true, even though the team is floundering near the bottom of the league.

Bedard kept a point per game

Although he plays for the weak Chicago Blackhawks, where the team has actually been winning lately, especially if Czech goalie Petr Mrazek or the rising NHL star Bedard performs above standard, he continues to maintain a one point per game record.

Bedard has recorded 15 points on 5 goals and 10 assists in that period. He was the best in points and assists among all rookies in the period. He is almost hitting the one point per game mark so far this season. So far, in 36 games played, he has scored a great 33 points on 15 goals and 18 assists. He dominates in all these indicators among the “rookies”.

The team is not doing well otherwise

Chicago is otherwise living up to the preseason expectations that it would not be a playoff contender. The team is the second-worst team in the NHL with just 24 points. Only the San Jose Sharks are worse in that regard.

It is all the more admirable that Bedard can score almost regularly. The team from Chicago has not even crossed the hundred goals scored mark yet and is on fire defensively. With 140 goals scored, they are also among the worst teams in the NHL.

He’s fulfilling the expectations of a generational talent

In 2005, Sidney Crosby entered the NHL and is now practically a playing member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Ten years later, the NHL world was introduced to Connor McDavid, who will surely have 1,000 points by next season. And in 2023, the NHL has another talent named Connor Bedard. However, let’s see if he follows in the footsteps of his predecessors.

The number one pick in the 2023 draft managed to score in 11 of 15 games played. Moreover, he is the first rookie since 2019 who managed to defend the “rookie of the month” award. The last time such a feat was accomplished was by St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, who reigned supreme in February and March of 2019.

His best game in the period under review was a home win over Winnipeg, when he was the third-youngest player in NHL history to make an overtime decision. He scored both of his team’s goals in the game and was rightfully named the star of the game.
