UFC President Dana White has confirmed the information that the legendary Jon Jones will not return to the cage until 2023. So will he walk at December’s UFC 282 as the main event of the night?
We recently informed you that Jiri Prochazka already knows the date and location of his first defense of the UFC welterweight championship belt. He will face Glover Teixeira on December 10 this year at UFC 282 in Las Vegas.
Since the announcement of said fight, the media has speculated whether the title rematch will be the main event of the night. In fact, the date was originally supposed to be the return of a legend of legends. In fact, Jon Jones just shared the December Vegas gala on his social media in late August.
Jones last appeared in the cage for fans of the sport in February 2020, when he defended his welterweight title in a close fight against Dominick Reyes. However, he announced sensational news this year when he informed his fans of his move up to heavyweight.
It has long been expected whether the top MMA league in the world would confirm Jones to fight on the card alongside Prochazka, however the legend’s return has been delayed. It was confirmed by UFC promoter Dana White, which certainly didn’t make mixed martial arts fans happy.
“I’m hoping we’ll see Jon sometime in early 2023, I see it in the spring,” White said in an interview with TheMacLife. This, of course, plays into the fact that the legendary fighter could return straight into a title fight with heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who theoretically could be coming off a serious knee injury by then.
This suggests that Prochazka’s defense with Teixeira will end up being the main event of the night. That would confirm the fact that UFC management respects the Moravian fighter as a big star in the organization.
