Fans of the famous Manchester United have arrived. The club announced today the hiring of a new coach, who is expected to be Dutch strategist Erik ten Hag. The current Ajax coach has signed a three-year contract with a possible option for another season.
“Over the last four years he has confirmed that he is one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe,” said John Murtough, sporting director of the Manchester United club, about ten Hag. Murtough also praised the way ten Hag handles youth work.
But ten Hag himself has warned that he does not plan to miss the end of the season with Ajax. In his own words, he will aim for a successful conclusion to his time on the Dutch guild’s bench. “It will be difficult to leave Ajax after all these years. I can assure our fans that I am absolutely determined to bring the season to a successful end,” ten Hag assured Ajax fans.
With the arrival of ten Hag, a major rebuilding of the squad is expected. A large number of existing players are expected to leave. These include Nemanja Matic, who has already announced his departure, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Alex Telles or even Paul Pogba, who, according to the Mirror, should already have an agreement with PSG.
It can be assumed that Donny van de Beek, who is currently on loan at Everton, will try to restart his career in a United jersey. He is well acquainted with ten Hague and under his guidance the young Dutchman has been putting in great performances at Ajax.
Erik ten Hag should reportedly get a very high sum for the summer transfer window. It should be up to £200 million. According to the Express, Manchester United should be interested in Kalvin Phillips, Jude Bellingham or West Ham teammate Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal’s Declan Rice, for whom West Ham would probably ask more than £100 million. Ten Hag will certainly be looking for a striker as well. Cristiano Ronaldo is already 37, so it would take someone younger. Tottenham star Harry Kane comes to mind.
But the Hag will be taking over United in not very good shape. The Manchester club are currently outside the top four, which ensures qualification for the Champions League. After the crushing defeat to Liverpool, United’s chances of winning the millionaire’s competition have been reduced even further.
