Because of the possibility of moving to the UFC, Kaik Brito did not join Gamechanger
What has been rumored in recent days has now taken on real shape. Welterweight champion Kaik Brito is leaving the Octagon to fight for his lifelong dream this summer.
He has caused a whirlwind in the Octagon. Already his first fight with Gabor Boráros showed how valuable a commodity the organization has signed. Even then, he was already announcing an assault on the Welterweight title. As promised, he delivered.
Even the longtime weight ruler and uncrowned king of the Octagon, David Kozma, had to bow down to him. He had to endure a three-round beating before the referee stopped the fight and the Brazilian became the organization’s champion.
Then a few days ago he sent out a message to the world about the news he would announce in the coming days. The media began to speculate about his departure from the Octagon to the UFC, then yesterday the fighter himself confirmed it on his social media.
Now his dream is becoming a reality, but he’ll still have to fight for a contract
“I just signed a contract with Contender Series,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram. “Let’s go for it to get a win in Las Vegas and the next goal of staying in the UFC.”
That means Kaik Brito will fight for a contract with the top MMA league in the world as part of Dana White’s Contender Series, which kicks off in Las Vegas in August. The question is what the deal is with the Octagon for the championship belt.
If he gets a deal with the UFC, the Octagon welterweight title will surely become vacant. However, it will be interesting to see how the situation would play out if Brito loses the fight of his life.
