Ciryl Gane once again showed the same weakness
Two title fights in the UFC, two losses. Ciryl Gane squandered his title shot for the second time and his opponent once again found the same weakness in the French fighter’s fighting skills.
Last January, he took on then division champion Francis Ngannou in a UFC heavyweight title fight, who at the time was cutting down one opponent after another. Before the fight itself, experts were giving Gagne pretty high odds, as the Frenchman is considered a world-class kickboxer who is not easy to hit.
However, Ngannou surprised everyone in attendance at the time as he tormented his opponent on the ground and eventually defended his championship belt deservedly on points. He thus showed the world a loophole in the fighting qualities of the previously undefeated Gane that night.
One that was not taken advantage of in September by Australian fighter Tai Tuivasa, who wanted to take him on in the stand-up. But that proved fatal for him and Gane got another title shot. This time, however, he faced a much smarter fighter who knew exactly where the fight was going.
Now the Frenchman’s weakness was even more noticeable and the division number one contender didn’t last half a round in his bout with Jon Jones. Jones, after a three-year fight fast, completely out-trained his MMA opponent and forced a tap out after two minutes.
Khabib Nurmagomedov came up with an interesting offer
The sight of a broken Gane sitting on the octagon floor was all telling. Despite claiming before the fight how he had been honing his wrestling skills over the last few years, he looked like a schoolboy in the fight. This was noticed by undefeated Dagestani legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, who sent Gane an interesting offer.
“Come to Dagestan, brother,” Khabib invited Ciryl Gane live on Canal+ Sport. “Come here, stay here for one and a half to two years and we will teach you everything about wrestling.”
“He’s still young for a heavyweight. He has to learn how to defend himself and he has to come to Dagestan. Let’s face it, where is France in wrestling? But I’m not one to tell him to forget about his coaches. On the contrary, he advises the French fighter to take them with him.
“The last match showed his weaknesses again. When he comes to Dagestan, we have a lot of heavyweights who can teach him. If he comes, then I believe he can be a champion in a few years. But this is just my advice, nothing more,” he ended his invitation.
