Offensive-minded back Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche scored 8 points on 1 goal and 7 assists in three games. In addition, he had one record-setting performance. Mike Modano will be honored with a statue in Dallas.

Makar was a big part of Colorado winning all 3 games played. He contributed with a goal and an assist in the win over Seattle (5:1), then 3 assists in the big win over Anaheim (8:2) and he contributed equally to the other success against Dallas (6:3).

The Norris Trophy winner from the 2021/22 season leads the entire league in scoring among defensemen, as he is second in the league with 26 points behind the leader Quinn Hughes, who has 4 more points.

In addition, he made NHL history in his last game. No defenseman has ever recorded 200 assists as quickly as Makar. It took him just 254 games to do it. Not even the legendary Bobby Orr reached that mark so quickly.

The second star of the week was Toronto’s William Nylander. He again holds his 17th point streak since the start of the season. He tied the 8th longest streak since the start of the season in NHL history.

The third star of the week was Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby, who managed to collect 7 points for 5 goals and 2 assists in 4 games. In addition, practically game by game he jumps in the historical statistics of the NHL.

Modano will have his statue in Dallas

In honor of Modano, a statue will be unveiled in front of the Dallas Stars’ American Airlines Center on March 16 before the game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Modano was selected by the Minnesota North Stars as the No. 1 pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. He scored 557 goals and added 802 assists during his career.

He also contributed heavily to the 1999 Stanley Cup victory when Dallas defeated the Buffalo Sabres in the finals with Dominik Hasek in goal. Modano, the NHL’s all-time leading scorer among U.S.-born players, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014 and will receive another honor next year.
