Europa League
Coach Jindřich Trpišovský is looking for Legia! What did he say about the opponent?
Prague Slavia failed to manage one of the most important steps of the season. The set goal was clear, to reach the Champions League. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and so the Susians have to try for at least a small patch in the form of the Europa League. But the double-header with Legia Warsaw is not an easy morsel.
Prague Slavia failed to manage one of the most important steps of the season. The set goal was clear, to reach the Champions League. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and so the Susians have to try for at least a small patch in the form of the Europa League. However, the double-header with Legia Warsaw is not an easy task, coach Jindřich Trpišovský is well aware of that.
In the Europa League play-offs, the Susians started with a home match against Legia, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The promotion will be decided in Warsaw. Although Legia will have to close the stands for the match against Slavia, a very boisterous atmosphere can be expected.
The Slavs are visually and athletically a much stronger team than Legia, but that is not what football is played for and glory almost always belongs only to the winners. A possible relegation to the Conference League would be a huge setback for Slavia.
The Polish Ekstraklasa champion has postponed a league game and is focusing all its efforts on Slavia. The Red and Whites played their league game this time and, at the very least, it looks like they did the right thing. What did coach Jindřich Trpišovský say about the crucial European match?
Jindřich Trpišovský on Legia
“We have to be prepared for what Legia will come up with. They have a good coach who entered the game very well in the first game with half-time substitutions and other moves,” he praised his rival Czeslaw Michniewicz.
On the question of who will start at centre-back, coach Trpišovský showed some signs but did not reveal the cards completely. “Kudy (Kúdela) and Zima have played a lot together. There is also a variant with Taras, who took a precautionary substitution. We have to take into account the opponent’s typology, Legia has different types of strikers. Pekhart is back.”
Trpišovský also had to respond to a question about the postponed Legia match and whether it is an advantage or disadvantage for Slavia. “The situation is different. It depends on the individual situation in the team and the programme. The postponement is Legia’s decision. It was good for us to play because the line-up will be similar to Sunday. We are glad we played.”
According to these words, it looks like there is indeed a real chance that the young Daniel Samek will start in this crucial match as well. Can a 17-year-old write another fairy tale?
