Chelsea’s coach doesn’t mind! 15 to 20 players train separately. I don’t see them, said Maresca
If there is one team in the transfer market that has made a big splash, it’s definitely Chelsea. It is bringing in signing after signing and there are currently over 40 players in the squad. But new coach Enzo Maresca has announced that many of them are training separately and not even seeing each other.

- Chelsea are not stopping strengthening
- There are already over 40 players in the squad
- But almost half of them are not training with the team
Chelsea have unveiled a huge amount of reinforcements at the start of the 2024/25 season. Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley, Roneto Veiga, Aaron Anselmino, Omari Kellyman, Filip Jörgensen, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, Joao Felix and Pedro Neto have all arrived at the club.
So there was already a huge amount of players in the team and the club is trying to get rid of a lot of them. Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson and Diego Moreira left for money, followed by others after their contracts ended.
Even so, there are still over 40 footballers in the squad. Enzo Maresca is the new coach and he no longer counts on Raheem Sterling or Ben Chilwell for example. Chelsea are now trying to find both of them a contract, but so far unsuccessfully.
Both players are no longer training with the team, which they understandably don’t like. They have no chance to prove to the coach that they deserve a place at Chelsea. But Maresca has made it clear that he is not counting on either and they are certainly not the only ones training away from the team.
“Another 15-20 players are training separately. I don’t see them. It’s not as messy as it looks from the outside. Definitely not,” Maresca said at a press conference.
“They can have a 20-year contract, that’s not my concern. I don’t care. It’s not my job to think who has what contract. I’m here to make the right sporting decisions,” he added.
