Monday’s match of the 28th round of the English Premier League was a duel between Chelsea and Newcastle. The match offered some wonderful moments, the fans witnessed five goals. Chelsea, thanks to the victory, is now only one point behind Newcastle and has a game to play.
Neither team is having an optimal season. Both teams are in the middle of the table, despite pre-season expectations. This is due, among other things, to a huge amount of injuries on both sides.
Chelsea entered the game better, which was certainly pleasing to the spectators at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer’s shot was headed in by striker Nicolas Jackson, who gave Martin Dúbravka no chance.
The next few minutes were played mainly between the sixteens. We had to wait until the 43rd minute for the next big opportunity, when Newcastle took advantage of a misplaced ball and Alexander Isak scored his twelfth goal of the season.
In injury time, Nicolas Jackson got an own goal and for the second time overcame the defence of the current tenth Premier League team. However, the whole situation was preceded by an offside, and therefore the teams went to the dressing rooms with a draw.
Chelsea dominated the second half
In the 58th minute, Cole Palmer, the Blues’ most productive player, made another score change. Twenty-three-year-old Enzo Fernandez, the 2022 World Champion, scored an assist.
In the 76th minute, Chelsea’s lead was increased by substitute Mykhailo Mudryk. He made a great individual save by rounding the onrushing goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka. It was his fourth league goal.
In the 90th minute, the visitors levelled the score at 3:2 when Jacob Murphy hit the front post with a beautiful shot. However, it was not enough for Eddie Howe’s side to take the points and they remain in tenth position.
