Sunday’s Premier League schedule features a Champions League showdown, with Chelsea welcoming West Ham in the London derby. The hosts want to secure third place, while the visitors can still theoretically think about fourth place.
Chelsea are in far from ideal form, losing three of their last six games and dropping out of the Champions League. It has little motivation for the rest of the season, it can no longer reach the title and has a comfortable six-point lead over fifth-placed Arsenal.
West Ham are not doing as well as they thought they would, winning only one of their last four games and the Champions League is getting further away with each round. From seventh place, they are five points behind the top four with one game to play.
Chelsea’s mainstay this season is Mason Mount, the England international has scored twelve goals and assisted fifteen times. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also been performing well in recent weeks, while Timo Werner has also improved.
Jarrod Bowen is having a dream season in a West Ham jersey, the English winger has scored fifteen times and assisted eleven goals. Central midfielder Declan Rice is also a mainstay, as is his midfield colleague Tomas Soucek.
Chelsea’s defensive performance has been poor in recent weeks, with two or more goals in four of their last six games.
In addition, West Ham’s defensive work has been good, getting more than one goal in only one of their last five games.
Considering the strength of the home environment and Thomas Tuchel’s experience of big games, I think Chelsea will prevail and no more than five goals will fall.
