Chelsea took four points from the two post-Christmas rounds, but remained below expectations. Nottingham clearly outplayed them in a 2-2 draw in the second half. They are eighth in the table, already seven points behind the Top 4 and five points behind the fifth place.
The Citizens also won once and drew once after Christmas, while the division of points with Everton was basically played on one goal. Manchester are already seven points behind leaders Arsenal because of the unnecessary loss.
Chelsea’s key figures
The home side is built on the performances of English offensive midfielder Mason Mount, author of three goals and six assists. Denis Zakaria gets his first proper chance since his summer transfer and is more than decent in midfield.
Manchester City’s key players
On the away side it falls to Erling Haaland in net, he has made 26 saves so far and added three assists. Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is his assistant, he has already served 15 goals with his passes and scored three himself.
Chelsea is struggling in attack, with 20 goals scored it clearly has the worst attack of the first half of the table, striking more than once in only one of its last six games. Four times it has come out completely empty.
On the other hand, the Citizens are rolling one defence after another, with 44 goals scored they are the best attacking team in the competition. They have scored two or more goals in six of their last eight games, beating Chelsea 2-0 in the League Cup.
Considering the incredible form of the cannonballer Haaland, Chelsea’s poor performances in the recent past, as well as their poor productivity and the absence of a killer on the spearhead, I think Manchester will win at Stamford Bridge.
