Friday’s preview of the third round of the English Premier League will feature a duel between Chelsea and Luton. The home team will be the clear favourite, but will they confirm this role on the pitch?
After one of the worst seasons in the club’s history, Chelsea has made many changes to its squad. One of them was also on the coaching bench, with the experienced Mauricio Pochettino.
Despite the improved performance, the west London side is building on the results of the previous season. In the opening match of the new season, Chelsea welcomed Liverpool to Stamford Bridge, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the second round we witnessed the London derby. West Ham won at home, despite the fact that from the 67th minute they played without the suspended Aguerd. The Hammers were able to enjoy a 3-1 win.
Enzo Fernandez’s missed penalty at the very end of the first half was a big factor in the final result. The Blues also failed to take advantage of the fact that they held the ball for 76% of the match.
Luton took on Brighton in their opening game after returning to the English elite. The 40-year-old coach Rob Edwards’ charges suffered a 1:4 defeat, but the Seagulls will undoubtedly be one of the main candidates for the European Cup.
The biggest star of the newcomer to the Premier League is probably Ross Barkley. It will be a very specific match for him, as he was at Stamford Bridge between 2018 and 2022. He has not yet made a start in a Luton jersey.
One can expect Chelsea to get their first win in the third round. It will be interesting to see if Nicolas Jackson, who had a successful preparation and scored against Newcastle and Brighton, can score. Chelsea should win the game by at least two goals.
Betting tip | Chelsea to win at handicap -1.5 with odds of 1.70
