Chelsea would like to win the Premier League for the second time in a row on Wednesday, with Brighton in their way. They also managed to win on Boxing Day, but this time they are facing the third team in the table. What to expect from the game?
Chelsea’s performance and results are not ideal at the moment. The Blues have won only two of their last five league games and have dropped to third in the table. They are already seven points behind first placed Manchester City.
Brighton on Sunday ended a run of eleven league games without a win and jumped to ninth place in the table. However, they should definitely not rest on their laurels, as they are only three points away from fourteenth place.
The home side are relying on Jorginho, the third man in the 2021 Ballon d’Or poll has hit six times and assisted once in the league. Mason Mount has been very productive as a winger, scoring seven goals and assisting four.
In the away jersey, Neal Maupay is firing it up, the French striker has already scored seven goals this season. Belgian international Leandro Trossard has had a hand in six goals (5+1), and summer signing Marc Cucerella is also doing well.
Chelsea rely on a well-functioning defence, having only conceded thirteen goals in the Premier League so far. Only Manchester City (12) are better off.
Brighton’s games have seen few goals. So far it has scored only sixteen goals, on the other hand, it has only conceded seventeen times. In its last seven games, only eleven goals have been scored.
Given Lukaku’s two goals in the last round, I think Chelsea will win and score at least two goals
