Current Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino is currently under a lot of pressure. The Stamford Bridge club is seriously considering his dismissal, with two potential replacements on the table at the moment. Chelsea also have to address the likely sale of several players in order not to break the Premier League’s financial rules.
Pochettino sat on the Chelsea bench last summer, and after his engagement at Paris Saint-Germain, he was supposed to be the coach to pull the London giants out of the crisis. But that is not happening, quite the opposite.
Chelsea is playing well below expectations this year. After twenty-five games played, they have 35 points, which is enough for eleventh place in the league table. According to foreign news outlets, under Pochettino, the chair has been rocked.
The Argentine coach has a contract at Stamford Bridge for another year, namely until the end of June next year. However, whether the famous English team will keep this contract length is unclear at the moment.
The Chelsea coach has been significantly hurt by recent results, especially the loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.
“Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term stay as head coach is uncertain, with qualification for the European Cup a key factor in deciding the Argentine’s future,” the UK’s Daily Mail reports.
Who could be the new Chelsea coach?
Understandably, many fans are losing patience with the fifty-one-year-old Argentine. But then there are a number of other Chelsea supporters pointing out American owner Todd Boehly and his inconsiderate spending.
Many believe he is behind the current crisis. However, what is certain is that it is the club’s management that will decide the future of coach Pochettino.
The current 11th Premier League team has reportedly been interested in current Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim for a long time. However, the Portuguese pilot is expected to be in demand among European clubs and will definitely have a choice in the summer. With the current crisis, will he choose Chelsea?
If not, the American owner has one more name in reserve. And that is Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton. But that’s not the only worry that’s plaguing Chelsea right now. According to The Telegraph, the Londoners must prepare to sell several players to avoid breaking the financial rules set by the Premier League.
The club is expected to raise quick cash from the sale of Lewis Hall to Newcastle (£28m). Romelu Lukaku and his likely sale to Roma would provide Chelsea with more than £30m more. Dortmund are also expected to exercise their option to buy Ian Maatsen (35 million), Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher and Marc Cucurella could also leave the club in the summer.
