Chelsea are interested in another Citizens player after Sterling. It would like to bring in a 45 million dollar stopper
Raheem Sterling is set to play a key role at Chelsea in the new season. He will become its highest paid player and should lead the Blues’ offensive attack. However, Sterling is not the only Manchester City player who could be moving to London. Thomas Tuchel’s team is interested in Dutch stopper Nathan Ake, who doesn’t play as often at City as he would like.
However, Chelsea would not be a step into the unknown for Aké. He started his professional football career in a Blues jersey when he arrived in London in 2011 from Feyenoord after the U17 World Cup. However, he only played seven games and moved on loan to Reading, from there to Watford and finally to AFC Bournemouth, where his loan spell turned into a permanent transfer.
Aké returned to the line-up of the elite English club in 2020, when he was recruited to their ranks by Manchester City during the summer transfer window. They paid 45 million euros for him and the Dutch defender signed a five-year contract there.
However, Aké did not make a name for himself in the packed Citizens line-up, so it is no surprise that he is looking around for a new address. According to the media, that should be Chelsea, with whom the player should already be agreed on personal terms.
Chelsea will undoubtedly need a new stopper by the start of the season. It lost Antonio Rüdiger, who left for Real Madrid. Aké could jump straight into the starting line-up and become a worthy replacement for the German central defender.
Aké’s current club, Manchester City, will not prevent his player from leaving. However, Chelsea are demanding a sum of £40-45 million to find an adequate replacement for Aké in their defensive ranks.
Chelsea will play their first game of the new Premier League season on August 6 at Everton. However, only the following days will tell if it will already have Nathan Aké in the starting line-up.
