Fourth competitive game, fourth loss. Three of those games have been league games. Bayer Leverkusen are experiencing their worst ever start to a season and legionnaires Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick are also involved. On Saturday, they fell to Hoffenheim, for whom Pavel Kadeřábek started.

Ambitions to play for second place and the Champions League? That was the plan, but after three rounds of the Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen have to start thinking differently. They are last in the table and the score of 1::6 is not at all flattering.

The loss to Borussia Dortmund in the first round was understandable, but the home loss to Augsburg showed that something was wrong. The home game against Hoffenheim, however, was supposed to be where things would break. It just didn’t happen.

Hoffenheim entered the match much better. They played more actively, more vigorously and at a higher tempo. What’s more, they took advantage of the fact that Leverkusen’s defence looked naive and incredibly leaky. In most cases, it was no problem to get through it.

Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick started from the beginning. However, Hložek went off the field after the first half. He did better than Schick, according to WhoScored. Schick had a rating of 5.9 after 45 minutes.

Schick had three shot attempts, but no success. However, he didn’t get any more chances than in previous games. In the end, he improved his rating to 6.0.

Pavel Kadeřábek entered the match in the second half in Hoffenheim’s jersey and was active, scoring the same rating as Hložek.

It is worth mentioning that Leverkusen looked chaotic. Not only in defence, but also in attack. In general, it was impossible to know what Bayer actually wanted to play. And that was reflected in the result.

Coach Gerardo Seoane has a lot to think about. In the next round, his charges will take on Mainz, a team that has won two games and drawn once.
