The Champions League group stages brought several interesting duels on Wednesday. How did the fourth round go?

AC Milan – Porto 1::1

A match for AC Milan. If the Italian team loses, it would lose its hope for promotion. In the sixth minute, Luis Díaz sent the Portuguese into the lead and it was bad news. However, thanks to an own goal by Mbemba, Milan at least drew level at 1-1 and stayed in contention for qualification from the group, although they have only one point after four rounds.

Real Madrid – Shakhtar Donetsk 2::1

A match that had a clear favourite. Real Madrid took the lead in the 14th minute through Karim Benzema after a pass from Vinícius. However, the Ukrainian side equalised in the 39th minute thanks to a Fernando strike. However, Benzema shot the winner for the White Ballet in the second half after a wonderful combination and another pass from Vinícius.

Dortmund – Ajax 1::3

The duel between the two offensive units was marred in the 29th minute by a very harsh card for Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels. However, even the numerical disadvantage did not stop BVB and in the 37th minute Borussia had the opportunity to play a penalty kick after a foul on Bellingham. The offered chance was converted by Reus.

Dortmund resisted and defended honestly even with ten men, but in the 72nd minute Akanji unluckily headed a cross to the back post where Dusan Tadic was lurking and cleared it into the net – 1:1. And it got worse. In the 83rd minute, Sebastian Haller headed Antony’s centre into the net to put Ajax 2-1 up. In the 93rd minute, Klaasen made it 3-1.

Liverpool – Atlético Madrid 2::0

Trent Alexander-Arnold helped decide one of the most attractive matches of Wednesday night. The Liverpool right-back first found Diogo Jota with a beautiful centre, who cleared the ball into the net, then presented the ball to Mané, who crossed his shot behind Oblak.

In the 36th minute, Felipe saw a very questionable red card for a simple foul in the Liverpool half. Quite possibly Makelie counted his conduct too, with the Brazilian disobeying his instructions to come and hear the verdict.

Manchester City – Club Brugge 4::1

Citizens took the lead in the 15th minute through Phil Foden, only for Bruges to equalise two minutes later through an own goal from Stones. In the second half, however, Riyad Mahrez gave the home side the lead back and Raheem Sterling scored in the 72nd minute to make it 3-1. In the 92nd minute, Gabriel Jesus made it 4-1.

RB Leipzig – PSG 2::2

As in the first leg, Leipzig caught PSG by surprise and went into the lead. Nkunku scored in the 8th minute. Leipzig could have done even better in the 12th minute, but Andre Silva missed a penalty. Wijnaldum turned the score around with two goals in the 21st and 39th minutes.

But the shock came for the Parisians when Szoboszlai scored from a penalty in the 92nd minute to seal the final draw 2-2.

Sporting – Besiktas 4::0

The brightest match of Wednesday’s game day. The Portuguese team defeated Besiktas 4: 0 at home. First, Pedro Goncalves scored twice, before half-time Paulinho made it 3:0. In the 56th minute, Pablo Sarabia, a summer signing from PSG, made it 4:0.

Sheriff Tiraspol – Inter 1::3

The biggest surprise of this year’s Champions League. Sheriff beat Shakhtar in their first ever participation and then sensationally defeated Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. However, they didn’t come up against Inter in the first leg and they didn’t do so in the return leg.

Inter went ahead in the 54th minute when Brozovic scored. In the 66th minute, Škriniar added another goal and in the 82nd minute Alexis Sánchez increased the score to 3-0. In the 92nd minute, Adam Traoré only corrected the score to the final 1:3.
