Plzen started well at home after a 2-1 win in Finland. They led from the tenth minute, added two more goals by half-time and even adjusted to the final 5:0 after the change of sides. They added two important points to the coefficient for the win.
Last year’s LM group stage participant did not score in the first leg in Maribor (0:0), but won the home leg 1:0 with the only goal of the double leg a few minutes before the end.
A great fight for progression was on display in Cyprus. The rematch between Larnaca and Midtjylland ended the same way as the first match (1: 1) and when no goal was scored in extra time, penalties decided the game. The Danes were more successful by one shot.
This is unpleasant for the Czech coefficient, as Midtjylland secured at least the group stage of the Europa League.
As expected, Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb (knocked out Macedonia’s Shkupi), Bulgaria’s Ludogorets (Ireland’s Shamrock Rovers) and Armenia’s Pyunik Yerevan (Luxembourg’s Dudelange) also celebrated promotion.
All three qualifiers are assured of a Conference Europa League group, as they are, like Plzeň, champions of their respective leagues. The rest of the Champions League second round rematches are scheduled for Wednesday.
