Are they crazy? Walker tested 24 times in the last month
After two years in the UFC, MMA fighter Jiri Prochazka has received an incredible response. In just three fights he managed to win the UFC welterweight championship belt. However, this also brings with it some problems that make the life of the native of Hostěradice, Moravia, difficult.
We have already informed you that fighters in the UFC participate in an anti-doping program. The USADA agency in the overseas organization is in charge of this control of fighters who undergo regular testing for banned substances in the body.
However, the Moravian samurai’s success and performances are of such interest to anti-doping officials at USADA that he is sovereignly the most tested fighter across all fighters in the world’s top MMA league. That might not even be such a problem, though, if the control numbers weren’t so one-sided.
The crazy situation has been noticed by the foreign media
BJPenn.com has published a list of the most scrutinized UFC fighters in 2022 on its website. What’s particularly striking are the number of checks for each fighter. In fact, Walk leads the rankings by a steamer with 51 inspections, and USADA officials have been to him 24 times in the last month alone!
Second and third place are held simultaneously by Angola’s Manel Kapé operating at flyweight and former Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman with just 15 checks. This is an alarming number, unprecedented compared to Prochazka.
The insane pressure has also been noticed by the MMA Digest YouTube channel, which is disgusted with USADA’s behavior towards champion Prochazka. Interestingly, it compares Prochazka’s situation to that of the biggest star Conor McGregor, who hasn’t had a single check for the last six months.
MMA Digest feels sorry for Prochazka and marvels at the situation, saying that the champion wants to live a life modeled after the Japanese samurai and practically has officials living in his bathroom. “Miyamoto Musashi (Japanese samurai, author of the Book of Five Rings) never talked to a man who asked him for a urine sample every five minutes, ” they compared the situation to the Japanese samurai who was a role model for Prochazka.
The reason for this frequency of testing has not yet been made public, so we can only speculate. Hopefully, however, it won’t interfere with Jiri Prochazka’s preparation for his next title defence against Glover Teixeira. That’s only six weeks away.
