Jiri Prochazka conquers the world of mixed martial arts
Jiri Procházka has conquered the world of mixed martial arts. After success on the domestic scene, he headed to the Japanese organization RIZIN, where he worked for five years. There he won the organization’s champion belt and Asian culture shaped his relationship to martial arts.
He then moved to the UFC’s top league in 2020, where he needed just two fights to get a title opportunity. In that one, he faced a legend of the sport, Brazilian Glover Teixeira, with whom he put on a phenomenal show.
Although things didn’t look rosy going into the fifth championship round, he came back from the dead with seconds left in the match and forced his opponent to tap out. The war of two titans has earned the status of one of the best fights in the history of the welterweight division.
In an interview, he offers a comparison between Rizin and the UFC
Walk, who has dominated both competitions and become a phenomenon in the sport, has now offered a comparison of the two world-class organizations. ” Because of the fight, it’s exactly the same as everywhere else, ” he said in an interview on Stream.com. “It’s about winning over the other guy, which is the same everywhere,” he added.
He later compared the conditions of the two organizations during the tournaments. “In Rizin you have a different approach of how they treat you, how they put fighters there,” he said of the Japanese organization.
“All the ceremonies around it, it affects some people, some people don’t,” he said of Rizin’s tournaments, which focus mainly on putting on a show for the fans. “The difference is also that they don’t do galas that often, they have 4-5 tournaments a year,” he said.
Overseas, he praises the sporting and organisational level of the tournaments
“In the UFC it’s the highest sports league, where they come, they roll out their whole ensemble and you have to go through all the procedures,” he offered a comparison with the UFC. “From the media, to the catering, to the weight, to the fans, to the fight itself and after the fight,” he described the organization of overseas galas.
“It’s always the same, but again, they take good care of you, everything is taken care of and they have a high standard of quality that they maintain,” he praises the top league in the world. He also outlined the slight differences in the organisation’s rules.
“In the last title match I learned that I can communicate with my team, which is behind the net,” marveled the current champion. “But what I didn’t realize was that now, when there was a full hall and people were screaming, I couldn’t hear the coaches at all and any communication between us was impossible during that match,” he explained the difference from the previous matches, which he had attended without spectators because of the crowd.
The Moravian Samurai will now face a rematch with Brazilian Teixeira. While Procházka is targeting the December tournament in Vegas, the organization is pushing him for the January gala. The catch is that the January date will take place in the opponent’s home country, which would give him a significant advantage. We’ll see in the coming weeks how the situation ultimately plays out.
