Twenty-five year old winger Václav Černý is getting into good shape. In the last two games, the Dutch player has scored a goal and an assist, which has helped the current fifth team to points.
At one time he was one of the biggest hopes of Czech football. As a teenager, Václav Černý was starting to make his way into the Ajax senior team, but injuries derailed his career.
He would struggle with them throughout his career, but now Cerny is 25 years old and it seems that everything is finally turning around for the better. He is currently a member of Twente’s starting line-up, where he is also scoring goals.
In the Eredivisie he currently has 9 goals and five assists, which puts him seventh in the scorers’ table. He is just three goals behind the leader, Xavi Simons.
Moreover, his team is currently fifth, with less than optimal form in recent weeks. What is Twente’s target for the rest of the season?
“We want to fight for the top four. And if that doesn’t work out, we want to be fifth, so that we have the best possible starting position for the play-offs. We needed to win, to pull away a bit and possibly get closer to the teams above us,” Cerny told Sport.cz.
He has to concentrate on club football and the national team. The Czechs have the Euro qualifiers ahead of them, with two matches to be played in March.
First, they will host the group favourite and biggest rival for the top spot, Poland, on 24 March, and three days later they will play a match in Moldova.
“We are facing a difficult start of the qualification. Poland, hopefully together with us, will be the favourite of the group. It will be very important to open the qualification well, six points from the first two matches should be a clear goal for us,” added Cerny.
