Casper Ruud is critical of himself. What does the world number four want to improve on?
After a successful year in 2022, when he played the US Open and French Open finals and won three more tournaments on clay, now comes more modest results. The Norwegian tennis player has a plan to get things back on track.
After a successful year in 2022, when he played the US Open and French Open finals and won three more tournaments on clay, now comes more modest results. The Norwegian tennis player has a plan to get things back on track.
Today, winning an ATP tournament is “just”, one would like to note. Ruud is critical of his results this year. Hand on heart, probably an appropriate attitude from the position of a 24-year-old Norwegian. He celebrated his tournament win this year on clay in Estoril.
The other results don’t impress. He’s only won one match at most other venues. The Oslo native’s elimination was enjoyed by the likes of Garin, Djere and Struff, all players in the seventh or eighth ten of the ATP rankings.
The season is going to be a long one and Casper Ruud has a plan to get better and he is fine. He is feeling good in Madrid before the start of the traditional Mutua Open, just like every year. He likes this part of the season, culminating in the Grand Slam in Paris in May/June.
Nora’s schedule
In an interview for the Madrid tournament, he revealed what he will try to change his game. “I think I rely a little too much on my opponents’ mistakes instead of playing more offensively myself,” he criticises his defensive approach to the game.
The Norwegian tennis player is determined not to let his opponents push him too much on the defensive. He also plans to make more use of drop shots. “This is my goal for the coming weeks,” he adds.
However, the seafood lover is not panicking. His results on clay last year were quite similar to the current ones and, in the tennis player’s own words, “turned for the better in Rome“.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Now it’s the turn of the Madrid 1000, and the Norwegian player is one of the wider favourites here, he played the semi-finals two years ago, which he can easily repeat this year.
