Casillas is furious about the Golden Ball results: I find it harder every time to trust these awards
The awarding of the Ballon d’Or is always a source of great embarrassment, but this year’s ceremony has sparked perhaps the biggest wave of discontent in years. The winner was Lionel Messi, which many believe is wrong. Even the legendary Iker Casillas agrees.
The awarding of the Ballon d’Or is always a source of great embarrassment, but this year’s ceremony has sparked perhaps the biggest wave of discontent in years. The winner was Lionel Messi, which many believe is wrong. Even the legendary Iker Casillas agrees.
Messi had a great spring, dragging Barcelona along. He has goals and assists, but he has finished third in La Liga and is already out of the Champions League in the eighth round. Then winning at least the Copa del Rey and dominating the Copa América with Argentina in the summer.
But his new job at PSG did not suit him very well. He scored only one league goal all autumn, in total he scored 4 goals in the dark blue jersey. Even his performances were not always perfect, for example against Manchester City he was criticized for his “pedestrian” performance.
That’s why many don’t understand the awarding of the Ballon d’Or to Messi. Especially when Lewandowski, who has scored in almost every competitive match, was waiting for him.
And it’s not only the fans who have spoken out against the poll, but also the personalities who have something to say about it. For example, the legendary captain of Spain and Real Madrid, Iker Casillas, did not remain silent.
“It’s always harder for me to believe in these football awards. For me, Messi is one of the five best in history, but we need to start separating who was the best in a certain season. It’s not that bloody difficult! The others make it complicated!” Casillas did not understand.
