Two legends of two of Spain’s biggest clubs caused quite a stir in the football world on Sunday afternoon. Real Madrid icon Iker Casillas announced he is gay. Carles Puyol, the Barcelona legend, then spiced up the situation with his comments. Where is the truth?
A quiet Sunday? More or less, yes. At least until a new post by Iker Casillas appeared on Twitter. “I hope you will respect me:: I’m gay.”
Carlos Puyol, a legend of Barcelona, Real Madrid’s eternal rival, responded to the post. Apparently, he knew very well what was behind Casillas’ tweet and so he spiced up the situation.
“The time has come to tell our story, Iker,” was the Catalan legend’s response. It’s worth noting that there was almost nothing else discussed on social media.
Some comments showed that the company still has a long way to go. Other comments, on the other hand, were an indication that there are many people who have no problem with respect and tolerance of differences.
Nevertheless, it was all suspicious. So the Spanish media delved into the whole situation and began to find out what the truth was.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Casillas’ post was merely a joke on the media, which constantly speculated about his relationships, with some newspapers saying he was dating a different woman every week.
Moreover, the legendary goalkeeper deleted his post from the social network after about two hours.
He subsequently admitted that his account had been hacked. He apologised to all his followers and the entire LGBT community.
