World number two Carlos Alcaraz and world number one Novak Djokovic will face off today at the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. The Serbian tennis player is the favourite for the semi-final match.
The road to the semifinals
Carlos Alcaraz made it through to the semifinals in the last round of the group when he defeated Daniil Medvedev, who was assured of advancing to the semifinals and would have knocked out unpopular rival Alexander Zverev if he lost to Alcaraz.
Medvedev was not short of motivation and the 20-year-old Spaniard beat him in two sets to secure his own semi-final berth. It’s important to mention that Alcaraz didn’t arrive at the tournament in ideal form until now, when he scored his first win of the year on indoor concrete. Alcarez is playing his debut ATP Finals, this year he has won 67 matches and won 6 titles, the most on the main tour.
Novak Djokovic had no progression to the semi-finals in his hands as he lost a set to Hubert Hurkacz (7:6, 4:6, 6:1). He needed the host Jannik Sinner to beat Holger Rune in the evening. The Serb drew attention to himself when he let it be known that he would not be watching or cheering Sinner’s match tonight.
The Grand Slam trophy record-holder is a six-time Masters Tournament champion and, if triumphant, will become the most successful player of the final tournament, surpassing Roger Federer.
Match record
The players have a record of 2:2 The last two matches have been dominated by the more experienced Djokovic and it was the last one on the hard surface that resulted in a 1:2 victory for the Serb.
Carlos Alcaraz vs. Novak Djokovic odds, betting tips
According to the bookmakers, Djokovic is the favorite, he has the advantage of experience from the ATP Finals and currently better form from the last matches, more experience from the hard surface speaks for him. Djokovic’s motivation to become the record holder is enormous.
I personally see it as just an advantage for Alcaraz , who has nothing to lose and can only gain. From my point of view, it’s a completely even match. I expect three sets in the match.
Betting tip | Number of sets won by Alcaraz in the match more than 0,5
