An engagement at the Santiago Bernabeu? Every coach’s dream, apparently. Italy’s handsome Carlo Ancelotti is enjoying that dream for the second time. First he was lucky enough to do it between 2013 and 2015, the second time he was appointed head coach in the summer of 2021.
This season, Ancelotti wants to attack not only the Spanish title with Real Madrid, but of course also the Champions League. Quite possibly this is his last season at the Spanish big club.
Lately, the Italian has been much associated with the Brazilian national team. However, nothing is official. And probably won’t be for a while.
Nevertheless, the now 64-year-old has seen a lot during his coaching career. He has coached Parma, Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, was at the birth of a new era at PSG, and has also tried his hand at Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton.
In total, he has collected an impressive 25 trophies as a coach. He is the only coach to have won titles in all of Europe’s top five leagues. He won the Champions League four times. He also holds the record for the most finals appearances in the millionaire competition.
However, when people talk about the best coaches in football history, the Italian manager’s legacy tends to be somewhat overlooked. Yet he has been at the top for an incredible 30 years.
Ancelotti reveals his recipe for success
“Football is a different sport now than it was in the 1990s. It has changed, it is changing, it will change. The players are becoming more and more professional. The intensity has changed, the rules, the training, the methodology. Yet, after 30 years, I’m still here,” Carlo Ancelotti told Diario AS.
“The fact that I’m still here means I’ve adapted well to the change. Technology has changed our lives. My coaching team tells me I’m old school, but I like technology. I try to make them help me in my work,” the Italian strategist revealed.
He also spoke about whether there is a recipe for success: “You need intelligent players and a club that supports you and stands behind you. Besides, I think it’s better to convince people than to impose something on them.”
