Capitals without Ovechkin turn around the Rangers

Washington lost twice at home, the Rangers leading the game after Adam Fox’s goals. The Capitals started the game without their captain Alexander Ovechkin, but still turned the game around in the third period and scored a valuable win.

Tied in the first period

The visiting Rangers outshot Washington on shots 8-5 in the first period. They were also the first team to score in the game. Adam Fox scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute after a pass from Chris Kreider, beating Charlie Lindgren with a wrist shot.

However, Washington struck again during the first period. At 17:50, Anthony Mantha hit a backhand shot that beat Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick. In the second period, this time Washington took more shots on goal.

However, they were again the team that had to make up the deficit, as Adam Fox scored for the second time in the game. In the sixth minute of the second period, he beat the home goalie with an emphatic goal. In the third period, New York again outshot Washington.

This time it was 10-6. But Washington still managed to score twice, showing the Rangers a lesson in productivity. First, Nic Dowd tied the game at 6:36 after passes from John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov, and the game was definitely turned around moments later at 8:39 after a pass from Dylan Strom, a backhand shot by T.J. Oshie.

Turnaround by Capitals without Ovechkin

This completed the turnaround for Washington, although they had to do without Ovechkin, who did not enter the game due to a lower-body injury.

Home goalie Charlie Lindgren was named the star of the game, making 25 saves, followed by two-goal scorer Fox. The third star of the game was goal scorer T.J. Oshie.

This is a very important win for Washington in the fight for the playoffs. So far, they are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, but five teams are ranked here within two points of the eighth-place New York Islanders. The Rangers remain in third place behind Boston and Florida, but with minimal losses.
