Cancelo to Barcelona? The Portuguese is close to a guest appearance at Camp Nou
João Cancelo will probably move again. Relations at Manchester City with Pep Guardiola are at an all-time low and the Portuguese full-back is looking for a way out. Barcelona should be the new destination.
João Cancelo will probably move again. Relations at Manchester City with Pep Guardiola are at an all-time low and the Portuguese full-back is looking for a way out. Barcelona should be the new destination.
Until about two years ago, João Cancelo was one of the best full-backs in the world. Pep Guardiola has tailored a role for him at the Citizens, the position of inverted left-back, retreating to the middle of the pitch to play the ball, suited him brilliantly.
But last season, Cancelo began to fade a little. Guardiola stopped building him somewhat, which logically did not sit well with the Portuguese footballer. Thus, there was an altercation at training, after which the Spanish coach ordered Cancelo’s departure.
Bayern Munich immediately jumped on the 29-year-old back, taking him on a six-month loan. But even at Bayern Cancelo gradually dropped out of the line-up. It is not surprising that the Munich club was not interested in extending their cooperation.
Cancelo, however, does not have to worry about the lack of interest. He has found admirers in Catalonia. Barcelona had wanted to sign the Portuguese since the winter, but finances were a problem.
Now, however, it seems that the two clubs have found an agreement. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona should bring Cancelo on loan very soon.
The deal will surely include a buy-back option, but it should not be compulsory. According to Romano, a few details need to be fine-tuned and everything will be done.

For Xavi, Cancelo will be a bit of a salvation. He doesn’t have a pure right-back in the squad, with stoppers Jules Kounde and Ronaldo Araujo alternating in that position, or Sergi Roberto or left-back Alejandro Balde playing over the foot.
