Newcastle United are working to become a feared club again. The large financial resources available to the wealthy owners will help. But there are already some interesting players in the squad. According to Kieran Trippier, the Magpies’ winter signing, one of his teammates may even win the Ballon d’Or.
The traditional English team is in very good shape in 2022. It has made it out of the relegation places and if it maintains its performance, it doesn’t have to worry about its first league affiliation. Who would have thought it until relatively recently?
In the winter, only five new players arrived, and they were not even big world stars. The team was strengthened by Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood, Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Matt Targett, who arrived on loan.
But the fact is that several interesting and quality players have been in the team for some time. One of the most talked about is undoubtedly Allan Saint-Maximin.
His new teammate, Trippier, even believes that the Frenchman is good enough to win the Ballon d’Or one day. At 24, he still has time to do so, but the confidence with which the England international claimed it seemed striking.
“He’s got something magical about him, he’s got great technique and he can do anything with it. He is incredibly direct with the ball at his feet. He told me he wanted to play for the national team and win the Ballon d’Or. I think he has all the skills to do it,” Trippier said on the True Geordie podcast.
However, the Magpies winter signing added that Saint-Maximin still needs to work on himself. Mostly, he said he needs to improve his stats in terms of assists and goals. “But he is already an excellent player,” Trippier added.
