Can Koeman handle this? Benfica beat Barcelona 3-0, the Catalans didn’t even get a shot on target

For some time now there has been talk about Ronald Koeman’s future as Barcelona coach. Rightly so. The Catalan giant is not at ease either in terms of play or results.

This was confirmed on Wednesday when Koeman’s charges were supposed to travel to Portugal for their first points in this season’s Champions League, but they are going home with a hefty haul.

Barcelona failed to win their first game in the group stages, but it was not such a shame. The 3:0 loss to Bayern, who are on the back foot in all aspects, can somehow be justified.

But a 3-0 loss in Lisbon against Benfica? That will be hard for Koeman to explain to Barcelona’s management.

The situation is all the worse because Benfica managed to outplay the Catalans in virtually every respect, except for ball possession. Barcelona didn’t get a single shot between the three posts.

The goals were scored by Darwin Nunez (2 goals) and Rafa Silva.

If Koeman sustains this defeat as well, it will be a big surprise and most importantly a disappointment for the fans of the Catalan big club.

After two Champions League games, Barcelona are last in their group, haven’t won a single point, have an appalling 0:6 record and still haven’t scored a shot on target.
