Antonio Conte is returning to England, he will once again be based in London. Only this time not at Chelsea, he will move north to Tottenham. With his familiar 3-5-2 style, can he once again conquer the Premier League?

Synonymous with the name Conte could be the word success. For the Italian coach can put a team together, win over a cabinet and win something. True, he hardly lasts more than two years anywhere, but he usually wins the trophy.

In 2011, he took over Juventus, who were languishing in seventh place. Immediately the following season he won Serie A, which he subsequently repeated twice more.

After a stint with the Italian national team, he took over Chelsea, who were languishing undignifiedly in 10th place in the table. Conte restored pride to the London outfit and dominated the Premier League in 2017.

In 2019, he took over Inter in fourth place. And last season, he broke Juventus’ nine-year domination of Serie A, which he started as the Old Lady’s coach.

Conte is famous for his 3-5-2 formation. There is no train running over it, the Italian strategist has relied on a three-defender system at Juventus, with the Italian national team, at Chelsea and at Inter. When he came to England, many pundits doubted he would succeed with the demanding three-goal system. However, Conte led Chelsea to the title in style.

the 52-year-old coach is known for his demanding nature, demanding total discipline from his players. Those who do not follow his instructions have no chance with Conte. So if some players at Tottenham, such as Delle Ali or Tanguy Ndombelé, were used to getting away with things, they must now quickly forget that.

Although Spurs are not doing well so far this season and are only 9th in the Premier League table, there is still a lot of quality in the squad, especially in the attacking phase. What could Tottenham’s squad look like under Conte?

Lloris
Romero – Dier – D. Sánchez
Doherty/Emerson – Hojbjerg – Ndombele – Reguilón
Lo Celso
Kane – Son

Especially in attack this is a great strength, the attacking duo of Kane – Son can play well, Lo Celso is a very creative midfielder, Reguilón on the other hand will have more time to supply the forwards with his great centres. The stopper trio can be much more confident again, Hojbjerg and Ndombel will keep everything in the middle. Both Doherty and Emerson have the physical capacity to cover the entire right side.

The frame of mind of Harry Kane will also be very important. The Spurs captain and last season’s top scorer and Premier League assistant has struggled so far this season after a failed transfer, scoring only one goal. That’s partly why Tottenham are the way they are.

But a fresh new wind from Conte can be expected to shake Kane awake. And together with Son, they will once again destroy the opposition’s defences.
