The Czech U21 national football team qualified for the Euros by first winning in a double-header in Iceland and then securing a goalless draw at home.
Matěj Kovář, the Manchester United goalkeeper on loan at Sparta Prague, made some great saves. It can be expected that he could soon make it to the national team.
And he would certainly not be alone. There are several footballers asking for their chance and coach Jaroslav Šilhavy himself has admitted that it’s on the cards for the next national team meeting.
“We have tentatively agreed with (coach) Honza Suchopárek that he is already planning to try someone for the next two preparatory matches. It could’ve been this meeting, but they were playing a barrage, so we didn’t want to interfere,” he said at the press conference.
Who could it be? One name is certain, it is David Jurasek, who would be called up even now, but qualifying for the Euros was a priority. Martin Vitík is also asking for a chance after his excellent performances, but he has to play for Sparta, which is not happening now.
Michal Ševčík and Jan Žambůrek are also available. There are a lot of possibilities and with this generation there is a chance that they will have some success at the Euro.
