A major twist in the potential transfer of Caicedo from Brighton is in the offing. Only a few dozen hours ago, Arsenal failed with a €60 million bid, but respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has come up with new information.
He writes on his Twitter account that Caicedo did not take part in the team’s training session and will not be available for the upcoming league game.
The reason? He wants to leave immediately and it seems Brighton will simply not be able to use his services.
By what amount Arsenal have reportedly improved their offer is not yet known, but Brighton’s management have previously announced that they will not let the 21-year-old Santa Domingo native go for less than £75 million.
It can therefore be assumed that Arsenal’s new offer will be close to that amount. With a variance of a few million.
It would be a perfectly logical move for Arsenal and a great transfer. It should be noted, even Chelsea of London have previously failed with an offer of £55 million. Arsenal do have Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey in the central midfield position.
However, there could be a problem if one of the players gets injured as neither Mohamed Elneny nor Albert Sambi Lokonga have enjoyed much confidence from Mikel Arteta so far. So having three really quality midfielders should be a priority in the title chase.
Moreover, Caicedo has the qualities for the starting lineup as well. So if the Gunners actually manage to bring in this talented Ecuadorian, it will be the second reinforcement from Brighton. In fact, the London club has already snapped up winger Leandro Trossard for €24 million.
