By far the most expensive sports team in history! Glazer’s family set price for Manchester United, but bidder says otherwise
The Daily Star has reported that the Glazer family will be willing to sell Manchester United if someone offers them at least $10 billion. However, given several recent statements, this is not exactly credible information. So let’s take a look at what we know.
The Daily Star has reported that the Glazer family will be willing to sell Manchester United if someone offers them at least $10 billion. However, given several recent statements, this is not exactly credible information. So let’s take a look at what we know.
There is no doubt that the Glazer family, hated by many Red Devils fans, is very savvy in business. This is evidenced, moreover, by the estimated sum of 10 billion dollars that any prospective buyer of the English club will reportedly have to pay them.
However, these Daily Star speculations are contradicted by a recent statement from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is a big Manchester United fan and also a potential bidder, as he wanted to buy the club back in the summer and met directly with Joel and Avram.
However, in an interview with the Financial Times, he said that the Glazer family did not want to sell the club and so negotiations went nowhere, which of course disappointed the fans.
What bothers them most is that the Manchester United brand is being squeezed by this American family. This was confirmed in a report by sports business blogger Swiss Ramble, who has studied the English club in detail.
The result? The Glazer family has not invested a dollar in Manchester United and the club is heavily in debt. The loans, of course, paid for many overpriced players who certainly didn’t help the club to better sporting results.
It’s been going on like this since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, who managed to hold everything together, but after his departure the inevitable happened and the only thing that has worked at the club since then is marketing.
However, this is really not enough for fans who were used to winning one or more trophies every year. Even more so when you know that the effort on the part of the owners to do something about it isn’t twice as great.
Once they are the owners of the club, though, even the big riots that took place over the summer won’t change that. So they have no choice but to hope that Erik ten Hag and his associates will at least bring sporting success back to Old Trafford.
