The end of a great legend. Sergio Busquets will leave his place at Camp Nou after the season and will leave his beloved Barcelona. His career in the Blaugranas jersey lasted 15 years, but the defensive midfielder will not add any more games.

It’s been rumored for a while, but now it’s official. Sergio Busquets will leave Barcelona for good after this season, where he will be leaving in June.

Busquets’ future has been a big topic all season, even more so when he retired from the national team after the World Cup in Qatar.

Yet he could have continued at the Camp Nou. The 35-year-old soon had an offer on the table from the club for a contract extension and the coach and his great friend Xavi continued to count on him. But it wasn’t enough.

Busquets decided it was time for a change of scenery and to leave the Catalan capital after 15 years. It is not yet clear where he will play next, but what is certain is that Busquets will not end his career for good.

For some time now he has been attracted by clubs from the MLS, of which he himself is a big fan, as he admitted last summer. However, an offer from Saudi Arabia is also expected to land on his desk soon, where he could be reunited with Lionel Messi, whose departure to Arabia has been heavily discussed in recent days.

Barring a miracle, Busquets will lift the La Liga trophy as captain as a farewell at the end of the season.

He was pulled into the A-team from the B-team by Pep Guardiola 15 years ago and over the years Busquets has virtually never lost his place in the starting line-up and has always been one of the mainstays of the squad. Now Barcelona must prepare for a future without him.
