In the last two seasons Brighton have blossomed footballingly. He can upset the big teams in the Premier League and there is one more admirable thing besides the footballing side of things. The team from the south of England buys players for small sums and then sells them for several times that amount.
In the last two seasons Brighton have blossomed footballingly. He can upset the big teams in the Premier League and there is one more admirable thing besides the footballing side of things. The team from the south of England buys players for small sums and then sells them for several times that amount.
Dizzy sums started flying into Brighton last summer. Chelsea rushed in with a €65 million bid for Marco Cucurella. The central defender, who had only been in the Premier League for a year, was bought by the English outfit for 18 million from Getafe.
In addition to Cucurella, Yves Bissouma was also sold, also to London. This time, however, to Tottenham, who paid 29 million euros for the skilful midfielder. Here, therefore, did not fly completely large sums as in the previous case. And even the return was not so much from the Mali representative, as he came in 2017 from Lille for less than 17 million euros.
In the winter, these departures were joined by another – Leandro Trossard. Where else to but London. Again, however, it was a different team. Arsenal bought the Belgian winger very cheaply, specifically for 24 million euros.
Trossard was reportedly unhappy at Brighton, so he had to leave. Brighton only made 8 million euros on him. Anyway, we’re still talking about a good valuation considering he scored 25 goals and added 14 assists in 121 games.
Then came the change when Alexis Mac Allister didn’t choose the London club, but picked up the phone to Jurgen Klopp and nodded to Liverpool’s offer. The German coach’s squad hasn’t had a very successful season, so a major rebuild is underway at the club as the team needs to get a boost, especially in the midfield.
After four years in the blue and white colours, he has moved for 42 million euros. It probably won’t surprise anyone that the net earnings are €34 million. However, it could have been better, Allister is only 24 years old, so he can still grow a lot and be one of the key players at Anfield.
Robert Sánchez, a goalkeeper who has come through the youth teams from U18, moved to Chelsea this summer to replace Mendy, who nodded to an offer from Saudi Arabia. The amount reached 23 million euros. The Spanish goalkeeper held Brighton when needed last season, so it will be interesting to see if his successor can adequately replace him.
Brighton’s excellent scouting has been confirmed by Moisés Caicedo, who arrived in England two years ago from Independiente for a sum of 28 million euros. Now, two years later, Liverpool and Chelsea are in a tug of war for him. In the end, the Blues won. Moreover, the London club did not hesitate to pay 116 million euros for the Ecuadorian midfielder!
However, the list of players on whom the club has profited does not end there. Others are Ben White, Dan Burn or Neal Maupay. In total, Brighton’s profit made over 400 million euros in the last two years (3 summer transfer windows).
